Bonhoeffer once said that trying to do discipleship without community is like trying to be a Christian without Jesus!

Life was never meant to be lived alone. Like our Creator, we were made to experience relationship. The interesting fact of the matter is that most Christ followers actually pull away from people who do not think or act like they do on a regular basis. Within 8 years of becoming a Christ follower, it has been shown that we no longer have friends who are not Christ followers. Jesus said that people do not light a candle and then cover it – then no one benefits from the light. Yet we, as Christ followers, often believe it is better for us to pull away from people who do not think God has anything to offer them. We live our lives in hiding. Instead of living an exciting adventure, a journey, we cower in fear – choosing to journey alone.

Your unique personality, life experiences, and pain were meant to be shared. Someone around you today needs a person to experience life with. Someone in the office, at the convenience store, in your neighborhood is just waiting for someone to journey WITH. Christianity is not about recuiting people. It is an allegiance with Jesus Christ impacting those you journey WITH.
